Definition of Terms

Buy - To purchase another soul. The soul will be added to your portfolio. This action will trigger any untriggered gains on a soul, and you must have enough cash to afford the triggered value to complete the purchase.

Circles - There are nine circles of hell. Each circle has different mechanics and different goals. When you reach the goal of your current circle, you will be marked for descension into the next circle at the next reset.

Deletion - You may mark your soul for deletion at any time. The actual deletion will not occur until the nightly reset. Anyone who owns a deleting soul will lose the value of that soul from their portfolio, and the value loss will immediately be triggered to be reflected in the owner's value.

Descension - When you have reached the goal of your current circle, you will be marked for descension at the next reset. Your actual descension will not occur until the next time you log in. Your soulbux will be confiscated, but you will be given a bit of investment capital to begin the trials of the next circle. Anyone who owns a descending soul when it logs in and completes the descension will lose that soul's value from their portfolio, and the loss will immediately be triggered and reflected in the owner's value.

Flip - If you own the soul, flipping will process the profit on that soul, reducing the profit in your portfolio to zero and increasing or decreasing your value accordingly, the same as selling a soul. Flipping a soul you own can be done either by manually buying and selling a soul, or by switching to flip mode and clicking flip. Each option will have a slightly different result.

If the soul is not owned, a flip may only be completed in flip mode, and serves only as a way to quickly complete a maxflip.

Gain - The amount a soul's value has changed over a certain timeframe.

Maxflip - To flip a soul five times. Each flip gives that soul a small increase in value and soulbux. There is no benefit or harm to the maxflipper, only the hope that the maxflipee will return the favor. Once you have completed a maxflip, you will not be able to purchase the soul again until reset.

Multi - An illegal alt. These souls are identified by the word "multi" where their avatar would normally be on the View Souls page. They will be deleted within 3-7 days generally.

Pimp - Advertising yourself or another soul, usually done in the General Pimpage forum. The goal is to get more owners, which will give you a bit of investment capital and a tiny but steady source of income as they flip you in their portfolio.

Profit - The amount a soul's value has increased since it was added to your portfolio.

Reset - At 4AM game time SoulXchange will complete a nightly reset. This will update ranks, delete any souls marked for deletion, mark any souls eligible for descension, allow the next day's flipping to begin, and complete other routine maintenance operations.

Sell - To sell another soul. The soul will be removed from your portfolio. Any profit you have on the soul will be flipped and a percentage of that profit will become untriggered gain on your value. Selling a soul will also trigger any untriggered gains that soul may have, but only after it is removed from your portfolio.

Soulbux - Hell's currency.

Trigger - Put simply, to be the first to buy or sell a soul after it has flipped profit. The one who triggers a soul will not get the benefit of the flipped profit, but will enable the soul's (other) owners to see the gains as profit in their portfolio.
